Special Educational Needs (SEN)
The law in respect of special educational needs is fraught with difficulties and this is even more so following the implementation of the Children and Families Act 2014 on 1 September 2014.
This Act has introduced the concept of Education, Health and Care plans (EHC plans). These will replace statements of special educational needs and learning difficulty assessments. EHC plans will cover children from birth to the age of 25. However the old system will remain in place for any statement made before 31 August 2014.
We can help with:
- Advising on the rights of parents and young people and the duties of public bodies;
- Requesting an EHC plan assessment;
- Advising on the contents of a statement of special educational needs or EHC plan;
- Appealing the contents of a statement of special educational needs or EHC plan to the First Tier (Special Educational Needs and Disability) Tribunal.
