Gail Cook elected Chair of Nottingham CILEx
My Rise to Nottingham CILEx Chair started in 1986 when I qualified as an Associate Legal Executive, having started my studies in around 1982. I was on the Committee of the Nottinghamshire Branch of CILEx, then just ILEx, and I was secretary for a year.
In 1986, my daughter was born so I put my studies on hold and on returning to work in 1987, found life as a working mother too busy to study.
I have continued working for various firms in Nottingham since 1974, firstly as an office junior, then secretary and then studying and building up my own case load. It doesn’t seem possible that I can have started work such a long time ago!
The Nottinghamshire Branch closed many years ago and was re-launched about 7 years ago and I have been involved on the Committee since it re-launched. I was Treasurer for two years and this year, I am proud to have been elected Chair.
This is a particularly important year for me also, because I am studying to finally qualify as a Fellow, by doing a course specially designed for us old style Associates.
I am grateful to Cartwright King Solicitors, for their support with regard to these studies and look forward to being Chair of Nottingham CILEx.
