Cartwright King secure win for Leicestershire car enthusiast

The firm has recently successfully defended a Leicestershire car enthusiast who was found not guilty of running a scrap yard business.

The Environment Agency (EA) inspected a farm owned by our client in 2010 and discovered that there were in excess of 50 vehicles in varying states of repair on the land. Our client was subsequently charged with offences relating to depositing controlled waste and producing hazardous waste which are both imprisonable offences.

The 5 day trial at the Magistrates Court involved complex legal arguments and expert evidence and culminated in our client being found not guilty.

Sundeep Soor, lead solicitor on the case said,

“This fantastic result was achieved through a combination of factors: the tenacity of our client, specialist input from our expert witness, support and great work by counsel and thorough preparation of the case by the team at Cartwright King.”

The judge commended the advocates on the way the trial was conducted.

This is a great example of a win against the odds for an individual versus a regulatory body.
