Changes to Legal Aid — 1 April 2013

Changes to Legal Aid come into force on 1 April 2013 and will have a major impact on many family and immigration cases.

In the case of divorce and family law cases, Legal Aid will be withdrawn for most types of family cases including divorce, issues arising out of child residence and contact, and financial problems stemming from separation unless the family has suffered domestic violence or child abuse.

With regards to immigration cases, Legal Aid will be withdrawn completely for all cases.

There is still time to take advantage of the funding currently available but people will need to make their applications quickly and should contact the firm’s family and immigration law specialists for assistance as soon as possible.

The firm provides fixed fees for its family and immigration services and always agrees fees up front so that there are no surprises.
