Sponsoring Leicester School’s Crown Court Competition
Solicitors from the Leicester office of Cartwright King attended the 2013 School Court Competition on 16th November at Leicester Crown Court.
The day allowed students from the surrounding areas to take part in a mock trial before actual Judges and provided a rare opportunity for the students to see a glimpse into the world of law.
The students taking part are aged between 13–16 and they had prepared a case study before the event with the supervision of various solicitors. During the mock trial the students on the defence team had to try and persuade the Jury of students that the defendant was innocent.
Cartwright King’s School won the overall competition and one of the two advocates mentored by Louise McGhee and Eve Patterson won the Best Advocate prize.
Imogen Cox, Director at the Leicester office of Cartwright King said ‘ The event has been a great success, allowing students who may not have considered a career in law, to see what being an advocate in a court is like and have the benefit of doing it before actual Judges. Last year was also a huge success for the students and that is why we continue to sponsor the award for Best Advocate.’
