Chris Bennett is an Associate Legal Executive (ACILEx) and works in our London Eldon Chambers office specialising in Police Law.
Chris is regularly instructed by the Police Federation of England and Wales and private clients in all matters of ill health and injury pensions for serving and former police officers. He has significant experience in representing those with issues related to psychiatric injuries, particularly Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He regularly runs training courses on these subjects for Federation Representatives.
He is a specialist in relation medical retirements, injury awards, Regulation 37 reviews, Police Medical Appeal Boards, Regulation 28 (paid sick leave) advice, K5 Pension Forfeitures and Regulatory advice. Chris has also advised the Police Federation of England and Wales on Regulatory matters of importance to serving and former officers around the country.
Chris has advised on a number of Unsatisfactory Performance and Attendance Procedure cases and assisted officers through the disciplinary tribunals. Beyond this he has represented officers in both the Magistrates and Crown Court in criminal trials.
He has experience in conducting group actions on behalf of claimants. In 2015 he orchestrated an action on behalf of 50 claimants in a case regarding Regulation 37 pension reviews which led to the restoration of injury awards for all claimants to previous levels and over £2,000,000 in total for the former officers.
Chris is currently joint lead on a group action that is due to be heard in the Court of Appeal in summer 2018 which may have significant ramifications for medically retired officers nationwide.
