Richard Purchase is a barrister for our bespoke in-house Chambers and practices exclusively in all areas of criminal law.
Richard has experience of advocacy in a large variety of criminal law matters in the Crown Court and has represented defendants who are accused of a wide selection of offences, both at trial and other stages throughout the criminal justice process. He is thorough and determined to always provide a good service to clients.
Richard undertakes rigorous analysis in all his cases, carefully considers the needs of each client and he is noted for his extensive and detailed preparation in all cases in which he is involved. He is also qualified as a facilitator for vulnerable witness training.
- R v W and others, Luton Crown Court (2017) – A seven-week trial involving 8 defendants (with evidence related to 6 others in a separate trial), 12,000 pages of evidence and charges of rival drug gangs in a conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm with firearms.
- R v S, Luton Magistrates’ Court (2017) – A case of sexual assault involving a vulnerable, autistic victim who was 14 years of age; consequently there was the need to approach the entire trial process, but specifically questioning of that witness, with great skill and care as well as lengthy preparation.
- R v H, Northampton Crown Court (2017) – A trial involving a violent attempted robbery where the issue was one of identification.
"From the very beginning of my ordeal until yesterday when it was over I cannot fault Cartwright King Solicitors. My barrister Richard Purchase was so supportive while we were in court. He kept me positive and even though we did not get a perfect result we got the best one we could hope for. He definitely made what could have been an extremely stressful situation a more manageable one. Thank you to all of the people who helped behind the scenes and I will forever be grateful." - Client testimonial, February 2017
