Paul Szabo attends Parliament
On 9th July, Paul Szabo, Director and specialist in children’s law at Cartwright King, attended Parliament as a guest of Richard Burgin MP, the Shadow Justice Secretary and Shadow Treasurer, to celebrate 70 years of Legal Aid.
The function included speeches from Shami Chakrabarti, shadow Attorney General and former director of Human Rights group, Liberty; and also from the leader of the opposition, Jeremy Corbyn. Whilst the event itself was relatively informal, Paul networked with a number of legal aid solicitors and managed to address the plight of legal aid lawyers on the ground with both Mr Burgin and Mr Corbyn directly; confirming the importance of Legal Aid and highlighting some of the difficulties faced by practitioners day to day.
Paul has extended an invitation to Mr Burgin for further discussions and hopes that Cartwright King can highlight issues and help shape potential future policy or, at the very least, open up discussions within Parliament to help maintain and improve Legal Aid in the future.
