At Cartwright King we have a specialist team of solicitors dealing in Cyber Crime who are on hand to defend your rights. We have acted and continue to act in some of the most complex and high profile criminal prosecutions brought in relation to computer misuse and cyber crime. We have a wealth of experience advising in investigations and prosecutions which dates back to the earliest file sharing cases and subsequently into crypto currencies, the “dark web” and “hacking”.
Cyber crime is relatively new and constantly developing field. Investigations with an online or digital element are invariably technically challenging and complex. Many cases have an international element and investigations in the UK are often merely one part of coordinated action by law enforcement bodies across the globe, and particularly the FBI. These issues, together with the sheer volume of data that is invariably seized during a computer based investigation, pose real challenges to law enforcement agencies.
Finding a team of lawyers with this experience is rare, but at Cartwright King we have a team on hand with the expertise to challenge the investigators at every stage, from the seizure of data, to the admissibility of the Crown’s evidence to the thoroughness and validity of the disclosure of unused material.
Whether you are a victim of online fraud or are accused of cyber offences, online fraud or hacking, we can defend your rights. Our team has an unrivalled degree of experience in the field and are on hand to assist you wherever you are.

We are one of the leading law firms specialising in cyber crime, having acted on (amongst others) the Silk Road investigation, one of the largest and most high profile cyber crime investigations of recent years. We are leading the way in understanding these prosecutions and developing the tactics needed to successfully defend them.
In addition to investigations by law enforcement agencies, offences contrary to the Trademarks Act and the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act are increasingly brought by private organisations representing the film, games and music industry, such as FACT, ELPSA, IFPI and the BPI.
We have a proven track record in respect of copyright prosecutions. Our solicitors successfully defended in the first criminal prosecution for online file-sharing, the OiNK.me case. Consequently, we are one of the leading authorities on this area of the law.
We can assist whether you have been accused of computer misuse or are under investigation. We can also advise where your business may have been the victim of computer misuse by an employee or other third party. If the authorities are not interested, we can assist with a private prosecution.

Our team has the forensic skills needed to defend difficult cases aggressively and successfully.
Equally, the borderless nature of cyber crime and the fact that the USA is quick to claim jurisdiction in matters where it perceives that its interests have suffered, ensures that extradition may be an actual or potential threat in such cases. Cartwright King has a specialist team of extradition lawyers that can protect the interests of any of our clients who are so threatened.
We’ll explain everything to you in straightforward language and explain your options to you so you are fully aware of what is happening.
Unfortunately, Legal Aid is only available to cover representation at the police station during an investigation. However, it is the investigation stage, where a case is in its infancy and still being formed where a defendant can best protect his position. Each case must be considered on its’ merits, but we can offer a range of financial options from competitive hourly rates to an appropriate fixed fee arrangement.
Should a case proceed to charge, it is likely that Legal Aid will be available. We will apply for Legal Aid on your behalf and explain the process to you.
