Job Purpose:

  • You will have responsibility for and will develop and deal with a caseload of crime work.
  • You will be enthusiastic and energetic in developing and maintaining local and regional networks to attract and secure new business.
  • You will be comfortable providing expertise in both private and business cases
  • Your priority will be ensuring the Crime Team provides a first class service

Job Description

  • Covering all aspects of Criminal law work, you will provide technical expertise and guidance to team members and external clients
  • Managing a full caseload and on going work coming into the department
  • You will manage and supervise junior colleagues, i.e. newly qualified solicitors, trainee solicitors and caseworkers/paralegals to manage appropriate caseload types and complexities
  • Assisting with the delivery of appropriate training and development opportunities within the team
  • To develop the department and generate work

Responsibilities

Organisation: 

Independently managing your own casework, liaising with clients, providing advice over the phone, by email and other mediums
Analysing large volumes of legal information at speed and with a high level of accuracy
Working to strict deadlines, logically and methodically with a meticulous eye for detail
Advocacy skills with the ability and willingness to conduct own advocacy
Procedural and technical competence
The ability to work to short deadlines, under pressure and to financial targets
Good client care skills and commitment to these areas of work
The ability to build relationships with other professionals and third parties
Representing clients at magistrates court
Police station accredited
Duty accredited

Client care:

Taking a professional a proactive approach to work, with strong client care focus

Drafting:

Preparing draft documents including witness statements and processing evidence

Case types:

Managing a varied general Crime caseload, which may include:

  • Defence of businesses and individuals against any type of corporate or regulatory criminal offences or investigations.
  • Representing individuals who have been charged by the police to appear at Court or who have received a summons.

Growth:

Business development and marketing to support the work volumes brought in by the Firm
Demonstrating excellent networking and communication skills with the ability to promote the Firm to generate new business

Commerciality:

Ability to apply the Law with a degree of commerciality
Prepared to give your viewpoint to clients in a jargon-free manner
Experienced in delivery of training sessions and workshops/programmes for employers
Understanding of other practices areas that could cross over into Immigration Law

Health and Safety:

Complying with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
Taking responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others
