An exciting opportunity has arisen for an employment specialist to join our firm as National Head of Employment and deliver the smooth operation and growth of the Employment department nationally in line with firms objectives.

Job Description

In the role you will undertake a variety of duties, including:

  • Covering all aspects of employment work, you will conduct matters for clients, managing own caseload as well as providing technical expertise/guidance to team member.
  • You will manage and supervise solicitors, trainee solicitors and paralegals to manage appropriate caseload types and complexities.
  • Assisting with the identification and delivery of appropriate training and development opportunities within the Team.
  • Recognise and enable business development opportunities for the department nationally.
  • Delivery of a high standard of client care.
  • Growing the team nationally.
  • Cross referral of work within the Firm where appropriate.
  • Comply with Solicitors Accounts Rules and Code of Conduct and money laundering regulations in accordance with SRA guidance.
  • Manage a varied employment caseload including contentious and non contentious work, settlement agreements, claimant employment litigation, disability and discrimination, sexual harassment, negotiating settlements, Unfair dismissal.


The successful candidate will also have the following responsiblities

Finance and Departmental Performance

  • Draft, maintain and update Departmental business plans.
  • Provide input to the budget process.
  • Provide financial and people management across the department.
  • Attend and contribute to management meetings.
  • Advise as to over or under capacity in the department.


  • Champion the CK core values.
  • Chair monthly departmental meetings and 1:1s with staff, engaging & motivating the team.
  • Be available to all staff in the department to advise and support.
  • Ensure there is full co-operation in the department across all offices.
  • Ensure work levels are balanced and reasonable.
  • Assist with recruitment.
  • Identify department and staff training needs.
  • Manage the appraisal process.
  • Manage leave authorisations, sickness and approve department expense and overtime claims.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure that work for yourself and team is of a high standard, compliant and billed correctly.
  • Allocate work across the department.
  • Promote best practice across the department.
  • Provide appropriate resources and support for any audit activity.
  • Ensure departmental input on improvements and changes to workflow, case management, Law Fusion and systems and processes.

  • Manager/client satisfaction
  • Running own caseload with supervision of the employment team
  • Quality of work drafted and completed
  • Time recording targets
  • Costs/fees targets
