End of Life Decisions

Health & Community Care

The end of the life a loved one is one of the hardest things for any family to face. It is even more traumatic if the family are faced with a decision to take steps to end the life of someone in hospital by withdrawing life sustaining treatment.

The General Medical Council has produced guidance on how such a situation should be handled by clinical staff and this includes proper consultation with family members and the referral of the matter to Court if necessary to allow a Judge to decide what is the best way forward.

If you or your family are concerned about a request to consent to the discontinuance of life sustaining treatment, or are worried that doctors may end life sustaining treatment even without your consent, we can help.
