Cybercrime and Punishment Around the World

Cybercrime is on the rise around the world and has been increasing steadily for a number of years. Interpol describe cybercrime as a 'fast-growing area of crime' with costs running into the billions of dollars. Next year (2019) could see the total cost to the world economy rise to over 2 trillion dollars.

Serious Fraud Case Dropped

Senior Business Crime Solicitor John Speight represented a Defendant in the long running case of Operation Lithium which concluded at Sheffield Crown Court on the 7th November 2018 after an investigation and prosecution lasting five and a half years. The Prosecution in the case (CPS Serious Fraud Group Manchester) offered no evidence and a not guilty verdict was entered against the client.

Fraud Team Successfully Defend Conspiracy to Defraud Client

Laura Smith and Sundeep Soor have successfully defended a client who was charged with Conspiracy to Defraud at Inner London Crown Court.

Our client was one of two defendants who were acquitted out of 8 defendants in total, with the case relating to fraudulent insurance claims made in excess of £1m. Counsel Ian Jobling of Reform Chambers was instructed and the trial lasted 6 weeks.
