How do I bring my husband to the UK?

If you are a British Citizen or are settled in the UK then in order to come and join you in the UK, your husband will need to make an entry clearance application as your spouse. As part of the application the following will need to be proved:

  • suitability of the applicant, your husband
  • that you are not related outside of marriage;
  • that you have met;
  • that you are in a genuine and subsisting marriage or civil partnership;
  • that you were free to marry;
  • that you intend to live together permanently;
  • that you the UK sponsor has an income of £18,600 p/a plus an additional £3,800 for one child applying and an additional £2,400 for each further child applying at the same time as the main applicant. Alternatively by having the requisite amount of savings. This requirement is not applied if the sponsor is on certain types of disability benefit or carer allowances.
  • That you can provide adequate accommodation for you and your husband.
  • Proof of English Language at level A1 of the CEFR for Languages.

The application is normally made online and then an appointment is made at the nearest British Embassy or Visa Application Centre to where your husband is living. He will have to attend an appointment to provide the relevant supporting documents and possible attend an interview.

Alternatively, if you are an EEA national and wish to bring your non EEA national husband to come and live in the UK then you can apply under the EEA regulations. The requirements are much easier to satisfy and you will not have to meet a financial threshold and your husband will not need to pass an English language test.
