Documents required for Indefinite Leave to Remain

If you are applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, you will need to ensure you send the correct documentation to the Home Office.

One of the main points is that you must meet the English language requirements. You will need to have taken and passed the Life in the UK test and also  an approved English language test in speaking and listening at level B1, unless you can show you fall into one of the exemptions.

In general, aside from meeting the English requirement you will need to provide the following:

  • The relevant fee;
  • 2 passport sized photos of yourself;
  • 2 passport sized photographs of any dependants who are applying with you;
  • Evidence of your current leave to remain in the UK;
  • Your passport and any previous passports which contain visas you may be relying upon;
  • Your biometric residence permit if you have one and biometric cards for any dependants applying;
  • Your Police registration certificate if you have one
  • Birth certificates of any dependants applying;
  • Evidence of your home and finances;
  • Evidence of employment if you are relying on one of the categories related to employment;
  • Evidence of any absences from the UK;
  • Evidence of any criminal convictions;

Please note that the evidence you need to provide can differ slightly depending upon which type of application you are making. For example, if you are relying on settlement due to your marriage then you will need to provide evidence of your relationship.
