80 years ago, Andy’s Great Grandfather, also A J Cash, had the honour of being elected as President and representing the profession. Andy is now the 6th ‘Cash’ in history to hold this prestigious position.
Having been elected at the society’s annual general meeting in May 2016, Andy will become responsible for moving the society forward over the course of the next year, both in terms of finding new ways of supporting businesses and for the role it plays within Derby’s legal community.
As well as being a key decision maker, the need for change is critical and Andy has many aspirations for the Law Society. Increasing membership, in particular, recruiting the new generation of lawyers to keep the society current, adapting to the rise of digital working and supporting local practices and member firms to adapt to the current times as the legal profession continues to face increasing financial pressures, are all high on his agenda.
Andy Cash, on his appointment, says: “It’s a privilege to be appointed as President of Derby & District Law Society. Not only do I want to improve, enhance and increase our links both locally and nationally with other law firms and businesses but I am extremely keen to move the Society into the digital age to meet the needs and aspirations of the next generation.”
The Derby & District Law Society is the professional association for lawyers practicing in Derby and Derbyshire and represents over 280 members. The society exists to represent and promote the interests of solicitors in the area and to support the work of the profession locally.
