Zero Tolerance for Overseas Bribery & Corruption

A new specialist unit which will investigate cases of international corruptions affecting developing countries has been launched by the International Development Secretary, Justine Greening. With the UK having a zero tolerance policy for overseas bribery and corruption, existing investigation and intelligence units will form the new International Corruption Unit (ICU). This multi-agency team will be the central point for combatting corruption across the developing world.

Business & criminal defence expert, Gary Broadfield says, “The formation of the ICU represents a significant step in the on-going development of the UK’s capability in the fight against of corruption and bribery internationally. It pools resources and expertise from a number of sources to create a powerful and well funded new organisation. UK companies with interests in developing companies should ensure that they have robust due diligence policies in place to prevent and detect corrupt activities by their employees and agents in order to avoid coming under the new agency’s microscope.”
