About Attia

Attia (known as Tia) qualified as a Solicitor in 2011 and is a highly respected family and children law specialist. Known for her decisiveness and dedication, she is frequently called upon for urgent, last minute matters and is committed to assisting clients at all times, including out of hours and cross country travel.

Attia is regularly instructed by Children’s Guardians in complex matters involving older children, by other children’s solicitors seeking specialist takeover of transferred cases, and directly by children capable of giving their own instructions. 

Attia’s practice focuses on the most sensitive and complex crossover areas of family and children law often involving serious non-accidental injuries to children, murder, modern-day slavery, gang activity, county lines drug dealing, Immigration issues, terrorism, and human trafficking. She also has expertise in Hague Convention abduction cases. Her deep knowledge of resources for young people has led her to work closely with the the Children's Commissioner's office, specifically in Deprivation of Liberty cases where Local Authority progress has stalled.

Internally, Attia is deeply committed to developing the next generation of children law specialists, providing mentoring, training, and guidance to colleagues. Her focus on development, professional confidence, and community engagement has helped cultivate strong, resilient teams with a reputation for excellence.

• Re G and B (Children) (Abduction: Settlement: Grave Risk: Ukraine) [2025] EWHC 795 (Fam): Acted on behalf of the mother, successfully arguing grave risk concerning a return to Ukraine.
• Re E (Special Guardianship Order: Ukraine) [2024] EWHC 263 (Fam): Acted directly on behalf of the child in a complex international placement matter.
• [2021] EWHC 1492 (Fam): Successfully acted on behalf of a maternal grandmother in opposing reporting restrictions sought by the Local Authority following a high-profile murder.
• [2020] EWCA Civ 281: Acted for the elder children in a complex Court of Appeal family proceedings case.
• Criminal and Family Crossover; Acted for a party in concurrent criminal and children proceedings, undertaking the advocacy in the Final Hearing and securing a successful outcome for the family matter despite the client's criminal conviction.
• Intervenor representation: Acted for a severely learning-disabled intervenor in family
  proceedings following the death of a child to clearly establish and protect their role and rights within the case.

Attia is deeply passionate about access to justice, diversity, and improving the family justice system locally and nationally. Her recent initiatives include:

• Court Duty Scheme: Successfully launched the private law Court Duty scheme in Hertfordshire in conjunction with the University of Hertfordshire Law Clinic (March 2025). The scheme's success means potential pro bono nominations for the clinic
• Local Family Justice Board (LF]B): In early 2026, helped establish the LFJB working group for Domestic Abuse matters in Hertfordshire.
• Children's Rights: Invited by the Children's Commissioner's office to assist with research for children subject to Deprivation of Liberty, with a specific focus on the child's voice.
• She organises local legal community events including an annual Ramadan dinner event for local Muslim women lawyers noting the importance of cultural diversity in legal representation
• Professional Training: Organised and chaired Family Drug and Alcohol Court training events alongside the local judiciary/FDAC team for legal professionals
• Pandemic Response: Served as the Hertfordshire Law Society's lead for the Children Law response to the COVID-19 pandemic, working directly with various stakeholders to ensure cases continued progressing for vulnerable families.
