“Following being charged with assault, Mr Simner represented me. I was impressed with his detailed knowledge of my case despite carrying multiple other cases. I was kept fully updated at all times and involved in the decision making process. Between us we were able to build a strong defence case that led to the CPS withdrawing the prosecution case in its entirety. Are his firm good, well yes of course, but from my experience it was Jamie that made the real difference. Highly recommended” – July 2020
“I want to thank Jamie Simner who dealt with my case very quickly and efficiently and I was happy with the overall outcome. I have added Jamie to my contact list and will definitely be recommending him in the future” – January 2020
“Superbly impressed with the professionalism and reassurance given by Jamie Simner throughout my dealings with him. Mr Simner kept me well informed of the case’s progression and liaison with other parties. Certainly felt confident and well prepared for trial” – September 2019
Magistrates’ Court proceedings – Jamie represented a Custody Sgt who was under criminal investigation by the IOPC for an allegation of excessive force whilst on duty and subsequently charged with assault. The officer pleaded not guilty on the basis that all force used was reasonable, necessary and proportionate and expert evidence in relation to use of force was obtained. After trial in the Magistrates’ Court the officer was found not guilty by a District Judge.
Gross misconduct investigation/proceedings – Jamie was instructed to represent a Police Constable accused of breaching the standards of professional behaviour in relation to honesty and integrity. It was alleged that the officer had made a false witness statement in relation to a driving matter and had deliberately turned his body worn camera off to hide his colleague’s behaviour. After an IOPC investigation, the matter proceeded to a gross misconduct hearing and all allegations were denied by the officer. Jamie worked with Counsel and following a two week contested hearing, the allegations were found to be unproven. This case also included a successful application for a private hearing so that the officer could remain anonymous.
IOPC investigation – Jamie represented a Custody Sgt accused of sexual assault following a strip search of a detainee. The allegations began as criminal and Jamie represented the officer when he was interviewed under caution. The criminal allegations resulted in no further action and there were no subsequent misconduct proceedings.
IOPC investigation – Jamie was instructed to represent two Police Constables jointly accused of GBH after force was used to detain a suspect and PAVA spray deployed which resulted in the complainant sustaining a serious eye injury. This was an IOPC investigation alleging excessive force. The criminal aspect of the case concluded with no further action being required and there was also no case to answer misconduct wise.
Crown Court proceedings – Jamie represented a Police officer charged with ABH following an off-duty incident outside a bar. Jamie worked with the officer and Counsel and specialist expert evidence was obtained including a lip reading expert who carefully analysed CCTV which supported the officer’s defence that he was acting in self defence. The matter never made it to trial and the Prosecution discontinued the case following representations from the Defence.
