Martin Cornforth

Head of Employment

Employment Law

As an experienced employment lawyer with Cartwright King I remain as enthusiastic now as I was 12 years ago about helping employers and employees to resolve issues that have arisen in the workplace. I always aim to get the best outcome for my clients which will often involve reaching a sensible settlement but sometimes Employment Tribunal proceedings cannot be avoided and I have helped many clients to achieve successful outcomes at hearings.

More about Martin...

I was involved with the now well known case of Lock v British Gas and drafted the referral to the CJEU. I have dealt with many complex TUPE situations including one particular scenario which involved a large construction contractor being replaced by four contractors affecting around 300 construction workers. On another occasion I successfully persuaded an Employment Tribunal that TUPE to a sales employee when a Company division became a separate entity. I have dealt with the full range of discrimination issues. I have a good understanding of mental health issues which are becoming increasingly prominent as awareness grows. I have handled employment law for clients across a broad range of sectors including manufacturing, construction, health, education, charities etc.

In addition to advising commercial organisations I have also advised schools and MATs. I have advised charities, and have also registered charities and dealt with governance enquiries with the Charity Commission.
