About Melissa
Melissa is an experienced CILEX Lawyer in the Bedford team, specialising in Public Care and Private Children Law matters.
With more than 20 years of experience, she brings deep insight into the complexities of care proceedings, the Public Law Outline and the realities faced by families navigating the child protection system. She has been a member of CILEX since 2005, achieved Fellowship in 2022 and formally qualified as a CILEX Lawyer in 2025.
Her background in both Local Authority and private practice gives her a strong understanding of multi agency processes and the practical challenges that arise in public law cases.
She represents parents and family members in a wide range of matters, including non accidental injury cases, sexual harm, kinship and Special Guardianship assessments and proceedings involving parents with learning needs or cognitive vulnerabilities. She is also experienced in cases requiring intermediaries, interpreters, expert assessments and matters involving developmental concerns.
Undertaking advocacy in most of her cases, Melissa is known for providing clear, robust and practical advice, and she also advises on Child Arrangements Orders relating to "lives with" and "spend time with" arrangements.
Melissa is approachable and committed, and supports clients through what is often the most challenging period of their lives, ensuring they feel informed and guided throughout the process.
Alongside her casework, she participates in the Luton Local Family Justice Board, contributing to the development of local practice and professional collaboration.
