Notable Cases

  • “LA and M” – Representation of a father who’s children were subject to care proceedings in the UK but the family were not residents of the UK and there was a huge international element involved in this case whereby discussions had to be had with American agencies to discuss whether the children could safely be returned to America or remain in the UK.

  • “LA and F” – Representation of a Mother who had cultural differences in how to raise and discipline of the children. There was a clash between the understanding of what is acceptable in the UK and what the norm in Africa is. This was a very difficult case as there was great time spent understanding the differences between the cultures and what is accepted and not, and then having to explain to this to the Mother who could not understand this. I found this case very challenging as someone who was a mother to 4 children had to be comforted and told that she could not use the same parenting skills here in the UK.

  • “LA and C” – Representation of a Mother who had 5 children, who were all removed from her care. The Mother was assisted and guided and she had to work with a number of professionals with the legal support in order to change her way of life with the view to having her children returned to her care. I was able to assist the mother and guide her through this very difficult process, with her learning difficulties and she managed to have all 5 children returned to her care.

  • “LA and T” – this case commenced with  private children proceedings, where I represented a father concerning his two young children. There were major concerns regarding mother’s ability to look after the children and this was demonstrated in the Local Authority’s section 37 report. The Local Authority issued care proceedings.  It was decided that by the court that the private law proceedings should be run alongside with the care proceedings. The outcome of the case were recommendations that the children remain in the fathers care, with limited contact with the mother.
