Paul's Specialisms

More about Paul

Since qualifying as a solicitor in 1998, I have built up a reputation based on my personable approach, ability to identify the relevant issues and my balanced and considered advice. I am an active member of the Legal Community and a specialist in child protection cases involving social services, holding a Children Panel Accreditation from the Law Society. I have a particular specialism in cases involving non accidental injury, substance misuse, sexual abuse and neglect. I am regularly instructed to represent children within care proceedings by the court appointed Children’s Guardians, but also have a wealth of experience in representing parents, grandparents, extended family members and interveners within proceedings. I am a keen advocate, appearing regularly in all courts across the South Yorkshire area.

Working at Cartwright King has allowed me to develop both personally and professionally, giving me the opportunity to expand my skills, knowledge and ability to represent my clients thoroughly and effectively. Working amongst a team which is mutually supportive and has a broad range of in depth knowledge means that we are able to offer a professional yet compassionate service.

At 11 years old, I wrote to the Law Society to ask how to be a Solicitor, as I wanted to stand up for people who could not stand up for themselves. That ethos has never changed. Despite the work being difficult and challenging, the ability to really make a difference to the lives of young people and of vulnerable adults is a huge motivation in my work. I have also undertaken a variety of roles working with children and young people alongside my career, including being the Chairman of the Reparations Panel for young offenders in Rotherham; working with under privileged inner city children in New York and being involved in a Sheffield based group for children and young people who are in long term foster care. I have also formerly sat on the Board of Directors for the Sheffield & District Law Society, and I have lectured for local support organisations, the NHS and other professionals.

When I am not at work, I can often be found out walking in the Peak District. I am a keen photographer, a former scuba diving instructor and an avid film and theatre fan.

In 2020, I was the first ever recipient of the Sheffield and District Solicitor of the Year Award, and in 2019 was a finalist in the Legal Action Group award for Legal Aid Family Lawyer of the Year. I am based it the Sheffield office and represent clients from Sheffield, Rotherham Doncaster and Barnsley.
