Shakeela is the Head of the Family Department.
She specialises in all areas of matrimonial work, including complex private law, children, matrimonial, finance and Islamic divorce.
Shakeela initially trained in Yorkshire, at a long respective firm in Harrogate, before moving to Leeds to head up a new family law department at a corporate practice. She then relocated to Lancashire in 2017.
Given her experience, she has a diverse range of clients, both from the UK and overseas. Her work involves advising clients regarding domestic violence, international child relocation, forced marriages, prenuptial agreements, Islamic divorce and financial disputes. In relation to financial disputes, these are cases, often involving complex legal issues, such as how pensions can be retained or used to realise capital, business interests and identification of matrimonial and non-matrimonial assets.
Furthermore, Shakeela is one of the few solicitors in the country who is able to also able to advise individuals from the Muslim community in respect of Islamic divorce, and how this can impact upon matters relating to finances, and the arrangements for children.
Shakeela has a strong ability to understand the needs of her clients. She has a firm and practical, yet sensible and pragmatic approach in dealing with issues which are extremely stressful and emotional for her clients. She takes a very pragmatic approach in finding solutions which are tailored for her client’s individual circumstances.
