Family Paralegal - Nottingham

Job Title: Family Paralegal 

Location: Nottingham, with travel to other offices if and when required

Job Summary:-

This role will suit an ambitious individual who can assist with the provision of competent advice and services to clients in Family Law, support fee earners in the team, and who wants to progress their legal career.  

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Deal with initial new client queries and give initial advice where appropriate before directing them to relevant fee earner 
  • Assisting with casework including the arranging of appointments and assisting with clients and dealing with their queries
  • Routine administration on behalf of fee earners as required
  • Manage legal aid applications including CCMS applications
  • Prepare court forms, such as divorce petitions, Form E, C100 applications and statements etc.
  • Preparing court bundles
  • Dealing with legal aid applications, payments on account for disbursements and profit costs and billing via CCMS without input from the fee earner
  • Attending at Court and/or meetings to assist counsel and take notes
  • Prepare routine correspondence
  • Dealing with calls and office visitors
  • Obtaining land registry documents
  • Opening files on a Case Management System, time recording and preparing time print outs
  • Filing and appropriately recording information 
  • Booking appointments and managing fee earners’ diary

Person Specification

Candidate Requirements:

  • Degree educated, ideally within law or equivalent 
  • Ambitious and willing to advance their legal career 
  • Previous experience in and good knowledge of the legal sector
  • Good understanding of family law
  • Knowledge of legal aid processes, including managing legal aid applications and CCMS applications, and the ability to handle file billing and preparation of payments on account
  • Ability to produce court bundles including Indexes and basic court forms such as divorce petitions, statements in support, applications for decree nisi
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Ability to work towards targets, and the ability to manage their workload and time to meet these
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and on their own
  • Flexible approach
