Job Title: Immigration Paralegal 

Reporting to: Head of Immigration

Location: Bedford/Luton


Job Purpose: 

  • Supporting the immigration team with private family immigration and corporate immigration
  • Building up individual caseload and escalating new enquiries 
  • Providing administrative support to the immigration team
  • Building rapport with clients and providing outstanding customer service

Job Description

  • Handling initial enquires over the phone or at face to face meetings
  • Setting up electronic files and preparing bundles 
  • Drafting letters and completing online application forms
  • Communicating and build rapport with third parties such as courts, counsel and the Home Office
  • Managing the immigration teams diaries when required and sitting in on meetings to take notes
  • Updating clients on progress of their applications 
  • Billing and archiving completed files
  • Providing general administrative support to the immigration team 


Organisation: Building up own case load whilst supporting the immigration team. Ensure that work is completed to a high standard with a focus on attention to detail. Experience dealing with various portals when completing private and family applications. 

Client care: Taking a professional a proactive approach to work, with strong client care focus
Dealing with vulnerable clients in a sensitive manner to resolve complicated matters surrounding immigration

Drafting: Preparing draft documents including witness statements and processing evidence
Preparing documents to meet Home Office requirements (including drafting application forms, index of documents and letters of representation

Case types: Supporting and managing  a varied general immigration caseload, including: 

  • Entry Clearance Applications from abroad – such as Student (Tier 4) or Visit Visas, fiancé/spouse/marriage/civil partner applications, in country Leave to Remain Applications or Extension Applications, Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)/Settlement Applications and Appeals, EEA Applications and Appeals, nationality/citizenship and registration as British Citizens
  • Long Residence Applications (10 year route and 20 year route, travel documents, Family Reunion and Appeals, any other appeal from advising and lodging the Appeal to full representation at court, including Appeals inside the rules and outside the rules, in-country and out of country
  • Employer Sponsorship Licences, Applications and Appeals under the Points Based Schemes – Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 5, advising small businesses and multinational companies seeking skilled staff from overseas
    • Tier 1 Visa – Investor Visa, Innovator Visa, Start up Visa, Global Talent Visa 
    • Tier 2 General Visas - for skilled workers including extensions, Tier 2 Intra-Company Transfer Visas
    • Tier 5 Visas, advising on recruiting non-UK and EEA Nationals, preventing illegal working
  • Objections to civil penalties and appeals following service of enforcement notices
  • Landlord right to rent checks, Landlord civil penalties

Skills, Knowledge & Experienc

  • Demonstrates a positive, friendly, flexible, and capable manner, and can build relationships quickly
  • Works ethically and sensitively to support vulnerable individuals through Immigration processes
  • Has strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Has excellent time management, organisational and computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as document management systems
  • Is familiar with a case management system
  • Strong customer facing and good influencing skills, able to deal with queries both verbally and in person
  • Is able to ensure a high level of service with existing clients in order to secure repeat business
  • Stays up-to-date with the latest relevant legislation, policy changes and changes in the law
  • Remains efficient and productive under pressure

Education/qualification requirements

  • A Law degree and paralegal experience is desirable but not mandatory for this role
