Frequently asked questions.

You have just 21 days to appeal an SIA licence refusal or revocation. Due to the short timeframe, it’s worth taking advantage of Cartwright King’s free, initial telephone conversation to discuss your options.

The SIA will review your appeal, which is why it’s crucial that the information you provide is correct and properly presented to give your appeal the best possible chance of success.

If you are caught working in a licensable role without an SIA licence, the penalties can be severe. If you are convicted in a Magistrate’s Court, Sheriff Court or District Court, you could find yourself facing a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.

The SIA aims to respond to appeals as quickly as possible, but it can take up to four weeks. The SIA will notify you whether it accepts your appeal or stands by its decision to refuse, suspend or revoke your licence. If the SIA stands by its decision, it will come into effect immediately.

However, you still have the option to appeal an appeal decision in court. If you’re not satisfied with the outcome of your appeal, we can advise you on the merits of taking your case to court.
