What is British citizenship?

Having British citizenship means that you are able to live and work in the UK without being subject to any immigration controls. To many, it is the final goal of their immigration journey to the UK, and can be quite exciting.

What Does Naturalisation Mean?

Naturalisation refers to the process you have to go through in order to achieve British citizenship. You can only begin naturalisation if you have permanent residency in the UK, which is known as ‘indefinite leave to remain’.

British citizenship by naturalisation is only possible for adults. If you have a child who is eligible to apply for citizenship, their application process will be referred to as ‘registration’.

There are certain requirements which you must meet before you start a citizenship application, for example, you must be over 18, of good character and be planning to live in the UK.

If you do not meet all of the requirements and there is no good reason why not, then your application will be rejected.
