Important UK Visa Information From 2021
Following the end of free movement between the EU and the UK from 1 January 2021, all non-UK nationals, including EU nationals (excluding citizens of Ireland), require a visa for entry into the UK.
If you or your family members are citizens of the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, and started living in the UK prior to 1 January 2021, you could be eligible for making an application for residence in the UK under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS).
If you successfully obtain residence under the EUSS, you will be exempt from requiring a UK visa. You have up until 30 June 2021 to apply for the scheme.
If you do not qualify for residence under the EU Settlement Scheme, you will need a visa to live, work or study in the UK.
If you represent a British business looking to hire EU and non-EU employees, you will need a Sponsorship Licence so that they can apply for Skilled Worker visas that will allow them to work for your business. The UK Skilled Worker visa route replaced the Tier 2 (General) Visa program on 1 December 2020.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, entry to the UK is subject to the current government guidelines.

Frequently asked questions.
How long will it take to receive an outcome for my UK visa application?
The time it takes to make a decision on your UK visa application depends on the type of visa you apply for and whether you have to attend an in-person appointment at a visa appointment centre (VAC). If you have to attend a VAC, you can generally expect a decision on your visa application within three weeks (where 1 week is 5 working days).
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, a decision on your UK visa application may take longer.
How long will my visa be valid?
The validity of your UK visa depends on the type of visa you hold and your reason for entering the country. If you are visiting the UK, a standard visit visa is valid for six months. If you are coming to work in the UK, the Skilled Worker visa is valid for five years. It is possible to renew and extend your UK visa multiple times.
Please be aware that your UK visa can be revoked if you breach the conditions of your stay in Britain.
If you remain in the UK for a continuous period of five years, you could be eligible for indefinite leave to remain (permanent residence).
My UK visa was refused, can I appeal?
If your application is refused, your decision letter will notify you if you have the right to appeal.
If your application for a UK visa was refused, you can ask for the decision to be reviewed at an administrative review.
You can get in touch with a Cartwright King UK Visa Lawyer if you are unsure whether you can appeal.
I’m a UK employer, what are the right to work checks?
If you are hiring non-UK nationals to work for your business, it is your responsibility to check if they have the right to work in the UK. This includes checking that the employee has a correct and valid visa.
If a non-UK national employee is found to be working illegally for your business, with your knowledge, you could face a heavy fine, imprisonment or both.
